Diagnostic pathology of head and neck tumors 2024

november 6 - november 8

During the course, at least 60 cases, dealing with a variety of benign and malignant tumors and tumor-like conditions will be presented and discussed. Several common as well as uncommon tumors of the major and minor salivary glands, oral cavity, oropharynx, larynx, sinonasal cavities and cervical lymph nodes are included. As the whole spectrum of head and neck entities cannot be covered in three days, cases were selected to cover and highlight the most important and relevant diseases. Accordingly, some entities will be presented briefly as  supplementary slides during the case presentation.

On each day, at least 20 cases will be extensively discussed by the faculty members, using an  interactive approach (“live” microscopic presentation of the cases). Particular attention will be paid to the diagnostic criteria with systematic analysis of  differential diagnoses. Value and limitations of  immunohistochemistry and molecular-genetic tools will be demonstrated and critically discussed. A review and update of histopathology with discussion of  clinical significance of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck will be provided. In addition, several lectures will give an overview on classification and diagnostic issues, complementing the case discussions. The participants will have the opportunity
to review the digitized cases (virtual microscopy) four weeks prior to and four weeks after the course.
